Privacy Policy — UV Index
This Privacy Policy explains what information the UV Index app collects, how it is used, and the choices you have. Please read it alongside our Terms of Use and Medical Disclaimer.
The short version
UV Index estimates how long you can stay in the sun before burn risk begins. To do that it needs to know roughly where you are, so it can look up the UV forecast for your area.
- There are no accounts. You never create a login, and we never ask for your name, email address, or phone number.
- Your skin quiz answers never leave your device.
- Usage analytics are off unless you turn them on.
- We do not track you across other apps or websites, and we do not sell your data.
1. Who this policy covers
This policy covers the UV Index iPhone app (App Store: UV Index: Sun & Tan Timer), published by Olishare LLC, referred to below as "we" or "us".
Olishare LLC is the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
2. What we collect, and why
2.1 Approximate location — required for the app to work
What: Your device's location, reduced on your device to two decimal places of latitude and longitude before it is sent anywhere. We never transmit or store a full-precision position, and we never collect altitude, speed, heading, accuracy, or a place name.
Why: UV intensity depends on where you are. Without an approximate position we cannot look up your local UV forecast or estimate your burn-risk window.
Where it goes: The reduced coordinate is sent to our weather data provider, Open-Meteo, to retrieve the UV forecast for your area. It is not attached to any account, username, or advertising identifier.
If you decline location access: the app still works. It falls back to a fixed default location and clearly labels the reading as "Approx. location".
Important limits on what we can promise: We do not build or maintain a location-history profile. Forecast requests may be temporarily cached by the operating system.
2.2 Your skin profile and app settings — stays on your device
Your Fitzpatrick skin-type quiz answers, your selected goals, your appearance preference, your notification preferences, and your session history are stored only on your device. They are not transmitted to us.
2.3 Usage analytics — off by default, opt-in only
What: If — and only if — you turn on "Share anonymous usage data" in Settings, the app sends a small set of product-interaction events (for example: app opened, onboarding step viewed, paywall viewed, purchase completed, session started).
Why: To understand which parts of the app are useful and where people get stuck, so we can improve it.
How it is limited:
- Analytics are disabled by default. Our analytics provider is not initialised at all until you consent.
- No skin, health, or location data is included in usage analytics.
- No analytics profile is created for you, all automatic/passive collection (screen views, session replay, element interactions, crash autocapture) is switched off, and IP-based geolocation lookup is explicitly disabled on every event.
- You can turn this off again at any time in Settings.
2.4 Purchases and subscriptions
What: When you buy or restore a subscription, Apple processes the payment and RevenueCat manages your subscription status on our behalf. RevenueCat assigns your installation a randomly generated, anonymous customer identifier.
Why: To unlock the features you paid for, to restore purchases on a new device, and to know when a subscription has expired.
What we do NOT receive: We never see your payment card, billing address, or Apple ID.
2.5 Notifications
If you enable UV alerts, the app schedules them locally on your device. In the current App Store version, scheduling notifications does not involve our servers — see section 4.
2.6 Support email
If you contact support from within the app, your email client is opened with the app version and build number pre-filled. Whatever you choose to write, and your email address, reaches us as an ordinary email. No device identifier, location, or account identifier is attached.
3. What we do not do
- We do not require or offer accounts, logins, or passwords.
- We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, photos, health records, or any content you create.
- We do not use the Advertising Identifier (IDFA), and the app contains no advertising SDK. The App Tracking Transparency prompt is therefore never shown, because we do not track you.
- We do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with data brokers.
- We do not use cookies or web-tracking technologies.
- We do not operate any third-party crash-reporting or attribution SDK.
4. Server-backed alerts are not available in this version
The app contains an optional server-backed ("Smart") alerts system that is switched off and unreachable in the App Store version. In the version you have installed, it cannot be enabled by any user action, no server installation record is created, and no device identifier, notification token, or coordinate is ever sent to our servers.
If we enable this feature in a future release, we will publish an updated policy covering it before it becomes active.
5. Third-party services
| Service | What it receives | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Apple (App Store / StoreKit) | Payment and subscription processing | Purchases |
| RevenueCat | An anonymous, randomly generated customer identifier and your subscription status | Subscription management and restore |
| Open-Meteo | A coordinate reduced to two decimal places | UV and weather forecast |
| PostHog | Product-interaction events — only if you opt in | Usage analytics |
Each provider handles data under its own privacy policy and its agreement with us. These providers may process data in countries other than your own; see section 10.
6. How your data is stored and protected
- Data that stays on your device is protected by iOS's own app sandbox and device encryption.
- Any credential the app stores for server communication is held in the iOS Keychain, marked device-only, and is never synchronised to iCloud.
- Traffic to our providers uses encrypted HTTPS connections.
- Our diagnostic logs are written so that they never contain device tokens, credentials, coordinates, full identifiers, or notification content.
7. Retention
- On your device: your skin profile, settings, and session history remain until you delete them in the app or uninstall the app.
- Analytics events (if you opted in): we retain analytics data only for as long as reasonably necessary for app improvement and operational purposes.
- Subscription records: retained by Apple and RevenueCat according to their own policies and our agreement with them.
- Our servers: the current App Store version does not create any server record (see section 4). Our notification backend, which is not reachable from this version, applies automated retention: records inactive for 90 days have their location and notification token removed, records inactive for 365 days are deleted entirely, and individual delivery/event records are deleted after 90 days.
8. Deleting your data
- On your device: delete individual sessions in History, or uninstall the app to remove everything stored locally.
- Analytics: turn off "Share anonymous usage data" in Settings to stop further collection. To request deletion of previously collected analytics events, email support@olishare.com. Please note that these events carry no account identifier, so we may need additional information from you to locate them.
- Subscriptions: managed through your Apple ID subscription settings. Purchase records held by Apple and RevenueCat are subject to their policies.
- Server records: the app provides a delete function that removes the server record and everything attached to it. In the current App Store version no such record exists to delete.
9. Children's privacy
UV Index is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal data, please contact us at support@olishare.com and we will delete it.
10. International processing
Your data may be processed in countries other than your own through the service providers listed in section 5, subject to appropriate safeguards.
11. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the "Last updated" date above. If a change materially expands what we collect — in particular if server-backed alerts are ever enabled (section 4) — we will publish the updated policy before that change takes effect.
